Wilmette, IL – Great dentists use the latest technology to enhance patient health while also educating patients. This is why the state-of-the-art dental care practice of Dr. Craig Kohler offers microscopic dentistry, a unique approach to dental care that provides a number of benefits over the traditional dental techniques of the past. Dr. Kohler is currently one of the few dentists to offer microscopic dentistry in the greater Chicago area. In fact, Dr. Kohler is among the rare 1% of dental health professionals in the world who use microscopes to enhance patient experience.

“Being part of such a skilled, select group of dentists feels good, but my primary concern is always for the patient,” Dr. Kohler said. “The use of microscopes at the practice has less to do with being an elite dental heath specialist and everything to do with giving every patient a healthier smile.”

What Is Microscopic Dentistry?

Microscopic dentistry incorporates the use of special microscopes in general, cosmetic, and restorative treatments. These microscopes provide detailed and close-up images of the patient’s mouth. Thanks to the use of microscopes during dental care, Dr. Kohler can examine the teeth and gums with up to 20 times the magnification of the naked eye. This means that hairline fractures and other hard-to-spot flaws will be easier to identify and treat before they become more severe dental care problems.

Microscopes Aid with General, Cosmetic, and Restorative Dental Care

For general dental care needs, Dr. Kohler will take detailed video of the inside of the patient’s mouth. This video (generally 10 to 15 minutes long) will then be shown to the patient to point out problematic areas and discuss various dental health concerns and future treatment options. The dental microscope can also be used when performing cosmetic dentistry and restorative dentistry treatments, making in-depth procedures safer and more accurate and enhancing the quality of the results in the process.

Improving Patient Experience and Understanding

The videos taken with the microscope provide patients with a unique opportunity to see problems such as tooth decay and tooth damage up close. The dramatic images captured thanks allow patients to really get a grasp on what Dr. Kohler needs to do to address various dental health concerns.

Enhancing Patient-Doctor Trust

“The microscope allows the patient to see their condition before, during, and after treatment. For the first time ever, a patient can see what the dentist is doing, what he or she is recommending, and witness the true integrity of the tooth,” Dr. Kohler said. “By giving a patient this detailed glimpse of the condition of his or her smile, patients are educated and empowered to make informed decisions about their dental care.”

Teaching the Art of Microscopic Dentistry Around the World

Because of his years of experience using the three major kinds of dental microscopes, Dr. Kohler’s knowledge has proven invaluable to his peers, as well as the next generation of dental care professionals. Dr. Kohler has traveled around the world to lecture about dental microscopes and how they can improve current dental care treatments. Numerous dentists have had their practices taken to the next level thanks to Dr. Kohler’s guidance.

Dr. Kohler Will Continue to Hone His Skills

An experienced teacher understands that he or she should be a perpetual student. This is why Dr. Kohler continues to attend advanced education seminars and courses to learn more about the innovations in microscopic dentistry.

“I’m always trying to learn more to help my patients be their healthiest,” Dr. Kohler said. “Dentistry is, for me, a constant process of learning and imparting that knowledge to others to help them.”

During these seminars and courses, Dr. Kohler discusses new methods of using microscopes to treat patients and enhance their smiles. As new steps forward are taken, Dr. Kohler and his team want to remain at the forefront for the continued benefit of patients who come to the practice.
