Fear of pain and anxiety pose significant hurdles for individuals needing dental care. At our office, your safety and comfort are our #1 priority. Dr. Kohler is an experienced sedation dentist, offering patients a variety of sedation options, such as:
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide provides a light level of sedation and relaxes patients during treatment. Also known as “laughing gas,” it is a popular choice for sedation among dentists. The medication is fast-acting, has predictable effects, and no injections are needed as it is administered using a face mask.
As a result, it produces a light-headed, tingly sensation, dispelling worries and tension, leaving patients often with little recollection of the treatment. The medication can make short-term memory hazy. Nitrous oxide is the only type of sedation that allows patients to drive themselves home safely.
Intravenous Sedation
In case of more complex or challenging cases, intravenous (IV) sedation may be recommended. Dr. Kohler can assist an IV sedation-trained specialist on-site to ensure our patients’ safety.
Dr. Kohler is usually choosing not to administer oral sedation at our office. This is because it can take longer to leave a patient’s body, which can hinder quick and easy recovery. In addition, it is often difficult to predict the effects and precisely administer the correct dosage.
Nearly Painless Injections
Our practice features the Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA) System™, which administers a computer-controlled, digitally-calibrated level of anesthesia to one tooth at a time. STA has a pressure force feedback element that causes the syringe to apply only as much pressure as necessary for the volume of anesthesia delivered. Patients experience little to no pain before, during, and after treatment. Gone are the days of localized anesthetics involving painful injections, hours of residual drooling, and a lopsided smile!
Am I a Good Candidate for Sedation?
Even if you don’t identify with the term “dental phobia,” It is a very real condition. It has a debilitating effect on sufferers. You may be a good candidate if anxiety or fear has ever kept you from visiting a dentist. Sedation may also be recommended if you have a medical condition, like arthritis or neck or back pain, or are undergoing several procedures in one visit.
