PERIODONTAL DISEASE AND TREATMENT

Healthy gums lay the foundation for an attractive smile and strong bite. Therefore, it is essential not to leave periodontal disease untreated. Advanced periodontal (gum) disease can lead to loose teeth or a need for extractions. Periodontal treatment consists of professionally cleaning the pockets around the teeth. Periodontists can also perform surgical procedures for patients with severe gum disease when necessary.

PREVENTING PERIODONTAL DISEASE

If you have periodontal disease, try Dr. Kohler’s new invention, MOTSY Light oral hygiene Pack. It comes with four attachments designed to help you improve your oral health care. A rubber scaler can go around each tooth to loosen up plaque and check if the plaque is gone upon finishing brushing.

The 5X mirror will visually check your work behind difficult areas to see. An electric toothbrush example, anay makes brushing easier but does not have the tools to clean each side of your teeth and be able to check what’s going on in your mouth. This is important because plaque left behind causes decay and gum disease.

Periodontal disease can become associated with several other diseases. People would think that bacteria was the factor that linked periodontal disease; however, more recent research demonstrates that inflammation may be responsible for the association. Therefore, treating inflammation may not only help manage periodontal diseases but may also help manage other chronic inflammatory conditions.

We pride ourselves on teaching our patients proper at-home care techniques for brushing and flossing, discouraging problems between regular visits to our office. However, periodontal treatment will be the most effective if you adopt a daily routine of good oral care, manage health conditions that may impact dental health, and stop tobacco use.

Dr. Kohler offers deep cleaning and treatment for all stages of gum disease. Dr. Kohler will examine your teeth and gums and take x-rays to determine the best course of treatment. Schedule your appointment here!
