Dental bridges literally “bridge” the gap left where you have one or missing teeth in your smile. Dr. Kohler provides both traditional and implant-supported bridges using high-quality, medical-grade porcelain and other materials. Dental bridges are matched in size, shape, and color with your natural teeth so that it fits beautifully and indistinguishably within your smile.
Traditional vs. Implant-Supported Bridges
A dental bridge is supported on either side of the gap in your smile by specialized dental crowns. Implant-supported bridges are supported by two or more dental implants, which are surgically inserted within your jaw.
The Dental Bridge Procedure
If you choose an implant-supported bridge, you will require three to six months of healing after surgery before your permanent bridge can be placed. During this time, you will wear a temporary bridge.
After prepping, Dr. Kohler will begin to take impressions of your teeth and gums as well as your crowns or implants. Along with notes on the size, shape, and color of your adjacent teeth, this information will be used to create a bridge that fits properly and looks natural within your smile.
Which Type of Bridge is Right for Me?
When it comes to replacing any number of teeth, dental implants are the best method of support for restorations. They do not require alteration of your adjacent natural teeth. More importantly, they stimulate your jawbone, which prevents the bone atrophy that can otherwise occur in the absence of tooth roots. Ultimately, however, Dr. Kohler will work closely with you to determine what type of bridge is best for you.
